Archana Kochhar a renowned name from the fashion Industry has recently showcased her collection “Ahimsa Resama” at New York Fashion week SS16.
In India’s Pime Minister Narendra Modi “Make in India” campaign, Ace Designer Archana Kochhar has been chosen as one of the reputed designer to revive the Five dying arts of India . The art form upheld by her are Banjara, Kohlapuri , Himru , patwa and warli .
The designer has promoted these art forms through various platforms like fashion runway , corporates and charity events with many celebrated celebrities supporting the notion and sporting the garment with elements of dying arts . She has transformed these dying arts with a fresh and modern techniques and incorporated them into global and ethnic silhouettes to make them more wearable with a contemporary twist.
The designer has been promoting this unique art form of “Ahimsa silk” also known as “peace silk” which is segment of the “Make in India” campaign. These silks are extracted and woven without killing the silkworm .
Archana’s Embroidery board were inspired by the metamorphosis where all the moths were saved through the process of non violence silk and were turned into beautiful silk moths and this transformation has inspired Archana Kochhar to incorporate hundreds of tiny butterfly’s wings which she had created and binded together in a form of an intricate textural embroidery . Her collection is a fuse of Indian – contemperory silhouettes, where the east meets the west. While making her creation she has especially thought of th global women, women of today who would wear this collection and promote this unique silk. The color palletes of the collection is the natural color of the fabric which is color “Beige” and it is offset with ivory and rose gold embellishments . The fabric also has different shades of beige going to brown depending upon the leave color that the caterpillar has eaten.
